Mephistopheles, often portrayed as a generally humanoid figure wreathed in shadows, is the lord of deception, patron to all who use misdirection and lies to further their own causes. His domain is the second and third most inner layer of hell, from where he plots to overthrow Asmodeus. His followers prize themselves in being enigmatic, never showing their true intentions, including their worship of their patron.
